John Maus - Believer

It's nice to finally see a video that actually captures the romanticism and beauty in John Maus' music.  John Maus is in fact, a believer.  he believes in love and freedom and life.  the bass line, the synths, his voice, all plead: Love Is Real (last album).  don't Become The Pitiless Censors Of Ourselves (next album).  and if you do, then i hope that you get hit by a car, but not enough to kill or seriously hurt you, but like, just enough to wake you the fuck up.

Tearist - Headless

Tearist is an intense fucking band, man.  i missed two opportunities to see them before I finally did a bit ago at the Echo.  they're a band that honestly, just sounds so much better live than on album.  like, it just doesn't do it for me, i have to see them live (or watch as many live performances on YouTube as possible).  Kittles (singer) is fucking crazy.  no doubt about it.  i mean, when you play percussion by beating the shit out of pieces of metal, that says something.  it says, you're fucking crazy.  at one point at the Echo, she started beating the shit out of one of the walls with a pipe.  needless to say, i fell in love and bought another jim beam.  oh and they're blowing up (i think?)  check out an article on them in the laweekly and listen to their music.

Nike7UP - A World of My Own/If You Go Away

Nike7UP is the Girl Talk of witch house music.  well, Girl Talk if he like, did nothing but pot and zanax all the time.  Nike7UP mixes the shit that you inevitably heard sometime in your life with that beautiful nightmare you've blocked out forever.  seeing him live is best equated as thus: apocalyptic 1980's coked out dirty south rave in which you are left with blown out ears and eyes fucking dried out like raisins.  this though, is a trip.  one in which you are completely drowned in bass.  and if you don't think so, then you can go put a plastic bag over your head.

Johan Franzen's Grit

I reckon that Johan Franzen is the toughest motherfucker in the world.  Johan Franzen is 6'3, 220lb. and he was dropped fuckin' sideways, face first into the boards.  HE GOT FUCKED UP, 23 stitches IN HIS FACE.  This surly fuckin' Swede comes back, like at the end of the 2nd period, and plays his fucking guts out.  Oh, and when he comes back into the game, the coach is yelling at him to put on a visor or some shit, and Franzen just like, shakes his head (stupid? yes) and goes back into the game (epic? fuck yes).  and if you don't think so, then go challenge Franzen to a fist fight in the Joe Louis parking lot.

this is what he fucking looked like when he came back into the game:

The Weeknd - Glass Table Girls

The Weeknd has been making some of the best and most original R&B music in the last year.  coming out of Toronto (T'Ronto), Abel Tesfaye's sounds like R-Kelly would sound like if he took a break from peeing on 14-year-old girls (fucking awful, dude) and concentrated on making good music.  a beautiful, soulful voice matched with original, gorgeous production.  the beats seem to have some Burial/drag influence which is refreshing to hear in R&B music.  perhaps witch house music is making an influence in the mainstream genres?  i dunno, and honestly i don't really fucking care, i just like it. and if you don't, then you should chill with half a bottle of bourbon and a handgun and see what happens.

check out this sick fan-made youtube video that utilizes a scene (a perfect one to match the music) from the pride of Detroit, Robocop:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBSXG0MqzHg
